If you are a beginner wanting to take up the sport for the first time, the vast majority of target clubs require you to complete a beginners course before you can shoot unsupervised. This ensures your safety and that of fellow archers on the shooting line. Once you have completed a course you will have the option to join the club.
We run beginners courses throughout the year, they last six weeks and each session is approximately 90 minutes long. The current fee is £50 per person (senior and junior). We provide all the equipment you need, you just need to turn up. Contact us if you want more information on the dates of the next course.
Once you have completed our course, you will be invited to join SMAC, or you may decide archery is not for you – there are no obligations after course completion. If you want to continue shooting with SMAC you will have to join Archery GB for insurance purposes (you can join Archery GB through SMAC or directly), and then either join the club or pay a visitors fee each time you shoot.
